What kind of therapy do I need?

There are many different types of therapy. Some types of therapy may be more effective for certain conditions.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This type of therapy helps patients uncover patterns of thinking and actions that interfere with the their quality of life. Patients learn ways to stop destructive thoughts and actions.
  • CBT is effective for depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, OCD and other mental health conditions.
  • Dialectic Behavioral Therapy: This type of therapy focuses on problem solving and acceptance-based strategies. The term dialectical refers to the processes that bring opposite concepts like change and acceptance together.
  • DBT is effective for PTSD, substance use disorders, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, OCD and other mental health conditions.
  • Group Therapy: a therapy group typically focuses on one issue and participants experience similar mental health conditions. A therapist guides the group and may provide guidance and tools for the group to consider.
Group therapy is very effective for a wide variety of conditions and situations such as PTSD, grief, caregiver stress, eating disorders, chronic illness, and substance use disorders.
  • Family Therapy: addresses psychological, behavioral, and emotional factors that cause dysfunctional dynamics within a family system
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy: is a psychotherapy technique developed in 1990. EMDR reconnects a person who has experienced trauma to the thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with their particular trauma to help them process it and begin to heal. This therapy focuses directly on the memory to help change the way that the memory is stored in the brain and decrease symptoms associated with that memory. EMDR is used to treat anxiety, PTSD, panic and trauma.
  • Solution-Focused Therapy: This form of therapy focuses on improving a patient’s ability to apply solutions instead of viewing the situation from a problem perspective. This therapy is a collaborative process and therapists help patients to identify goals and solutions.
