What Are Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners?

When someone is faced with a mental health challenge, they want to connect with someone that is experienced and knowledgeable. But they also want someone that is warm, caring, and will take the time to get to know them as the unique and special person that they are.

Most people are familiar with psychiatrists and psychologists. Psychologists are therapists that have received advanced degrees. Psychiatrists are MDs that can provide psychotherapy and also prescribe medication.

But those are not the only paths that someone can take to work in mental health.

Clinical Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) are licensed to provide both psychotherapy and psychiatric medication. We are also able to provide:

  • Holistic Care – We try to address your needs inside and out. We believe that wellness comes from addressing not just a condition, but every component of your life.

  • Personal Approach – Our field of study is about getting to know you. Many in mental health are taught to treat a diagnosis. We are taught how to learn about you and what you need.

  • Multi-System Support – Many in the medical field operate independently, not connecting with other medical experts. Nurses are trained to work within other systems, ensuring that you’re getting complementary care from multiple sources if needed.

We use extensively researched, empirically validated psychotherapy and psychiatric treatments. But we also combine those treatments with a type of personalized care that is there to help you thrive.

What is the Holistic Nursing Model?

At Skycloud Mental Health, we specifically use what’s known as the “Holistic Nursing Model.” This model is what drives our practice and how we work with you. The Holistic Nursing Model sees your whole person:

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Emotional
  • Societal
  • Spiritual

We believe that, even if we treat a condition like anxiety, depression, or ADHD, we still need to make sure that your other needs are met in order to successfully maintain a higher quality of life in the long term.

Because that’s what we want for you. We want you to have a better quality of life – one filled with more joy, fun, contentment, and memories. While everything we do is designed to treat the condition(s) you are struggling with, we also learn more about your relationships, your lifestyle, the stress of your work, your history, your identity, your culture, and anything else that may affect your life now and in the future.
