This type of testing, known as “Quantitative Behavioral Testing” (Qb Test for short) is an entirely electronic test that psychiatrists and other mental health professionals use to not only evaluate the presence of ADHD symptoms, but also ensure that the person is better able to obtain the right treatments.

What is QB Testing and How Does it Work?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder. Those with ADHD have brains that developed differently from their neurotypical peers. In the past, diagnosis relied on things like academic issues, fidgeting, disruptive behavior, daydreaming, risk taking, signs of being distracted.

These are all symptoms of ADHD, but they’re also symptoms of other issues – like lack of sleep, excessive caffeine, anxiety, or just being a kid/teen. Psychiatrists may also miss diagnoses if the issues aren’t present at the time – for example, a person with ADHD is more prone to accidentally dropping things or misplacing their keys, yet these are unlikely to occur during an appointment while a psychiatrist is making a diagnosis.

That is why many psychiatric professionals are using Qb Testing.

Unlike ADHD Testing of the past, Qb testing is objective. The patient completes a task on the computer screen, and while they’re completing the task, their eyes and behaviors are being monitored with a headband, infrared light, and a camera to measure differences between those with ADHD and those without,

Neuropsychologists found that neurodivergent individuals with ADHD tend to react differently to the task in a way that can be measured with the QBTest. This, then, provides a more objective, effective way to measure ADHD and make sure that they’re able to deliver a more accurate diagnosis.

FAQ About Qb Tests

Q: Does it Hurt?

A: No, Qb testing is painless and risk free. The patient will be completing an activity that is almost like a game while the headband and infrared lighting measure their behaviors.

Q: Can Anyone Get a Qb Test?

A: Yes! Qb Testing is believed to work for anyone. The tasks that are completed have no right or wrong answers, so it is a great choice for young children and those of whom English is not their first language as well.

Q: Do I Need Other Types of Testing?

A: Qb testing is objective and accurate, but it is also only one tool of many. We’ll talk about other testing options, or you can use Qb testing along with other diagnostic tools already completed.
